WHY RECYCLE?

Our environment is suffering through global warming and excess waste that gets buried in landfill sites. Recycling has never been so relevant. In the past, recycling used to be a “fashionable” gesture, now it has become more of a moral obligation. To safeguard our planet, it is our duty to reduce the amount of waste we go through, by recycling more.

Almost everything we produce nowadays is 100% recyclable.

There are many ways in which textiles are collected for recycling:

Those are usually found in supermarket car parks, recycling centres and points, and schools. People fill them with their unwanted clothing. They usually display the name of the organisation benefitting from the material they generate.

Several collectors, are working directly with schools where pupils bring in at a pre arranged date their unwanted clothing. The goods are collected, weighed and the school receives a payment of an agreed rate with the collector.

Some people have a preferred charity they wish to donate to,  so they bring their unwanted items directly to the local charity shop. Although more money is made by selling donated goods in charity shops, a big chunk of this money goes to administrative costs.

This is by far the most common way used for collecting textiles. Typically, the householder receives a leaflet through the door appealing for donations of unwanted clothing, in support of a national or local charity. The leaflet will have the date and time of collection, and goods would be left outside the door.
